Welcome to Spanish class!
I am excited to help your child learn or improve their abilities to communicate in Spanish. Spanish 1 class will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Each class will be 45 minutes long. Our curriculum will be Bob Jones University (BJU) Spanish 1 ¡nuevos amigos! We will be covering two units divided into six total chapters. Each chapter will consist of approximately 14 days. There will be a test on the 15th day. Please review Study tips: Learning to communicate in Spanish found on page xv, xvi in your student’s textbook.
My goal is to complete most activities and exercises in class with no homework on Wednesdays. However, additional studying throughout the week will be needed in order to excel in Spanish 1. Many listening activities and exercises will require an audio file found online by going to AfterSchoolHelp.com. Use the search feature and type in the specific “Actividad” (Activity) found in your students’ textbook or “Ejercicio” (Exercise) assignment from teacher. Please let me know right away if you don’t have access to the internet.
The following are additional resources/recommendations that will help
- A Spanish/English dictionary whether paperback or on an electronic device will be a helpful tool for homework/classwork.
- The app, Duolingo Spanish version, is a fun way to increase your student’s exposure to Spanish.
- Studyspanish.com is a thorough learning resource (the free version is all you need). Tap on menu bar then choose Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary, or Verb Drills afterwards tap on Unit and then topic of choice.
- YouTube, Pod Casts, Spanish subtitles on your favorite movies, Spanish/English Bibles, or visiting Spanish speakers in our community can all be fantastic sources for Spanish immersion and learning.
Finally, I plan to offer free tutoring on Tuesday’s from 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Spanish room #110. Any students who may be struggling can schedule an appointment ahead of time with me.
